La película se trata de Jaime Escalante que es un nuevo profesor de matematicas en una escuela secundaria de Los Angeles, California.

La escuela esta integrada por alumnos latinos de bajo nivel y sobre todo problemáticos y los profesores se centran más en la disciplina de los estudiantes.

El profesor Jaime Escalante tuvo que hacerles cambiar de actitud y les exigió fuertes sacrificios. Y para esto decide cambiar el sistema y desafiar a los alumnos a tener otro nivel de aprendizaje ya que sus anteriores profesores les decian que iban hacer unos mediocres y que no iban a llegar a sus metas por ser latinos.

The teacher Jaime Escalante had to make them change their attitude and demanded heavy sacrifices. And it decides to change the system and challenge the students to have another level of learning because their previous teachers said they would make some mediocre and they would not reach their goals for being Latino.

Escalante at first not well liked by his students and that receives inslutos and threats. And too much work to realize their goal began to have health problems.

As the year progresses, it would draw the attention of students taught otherwise for so do not be boring. As students turn in good spirits and dedicated.

Escalante teaches the basics, but realize that your students can give more and teaches calculus. Some teachers said they could not teach these students and it was impossible to learn.

For this, Escalante makes a calculus course for high level as this would help them further their studies. In addition to teaching calculus, also told to be better every day, to face their problems and see life differently.

On test day came and the students passed. After the test was invalid because all students had the same errors and thought that everyone had copied.
