Ejercicios para el desarrollo de la expresión oral en idioma inglés (página 2)

La didáctica tiene entre sus objetivos
diseñar acciones para atender las necesidades
básicas de aprendizaje de los estudiantes, sin embargo los
ejercicios que se proponen en el programa de la asignatura no
están diseñados para satisfacer el
mismo.

Durante el proceso de investigación fueron
utilizados diferentes métodos científicos del nivel
teórico, empírico y elementos estadísticos y
matemáticos.

La investigación posee un aporte práctico
y lo constituye el sistema de ejercicios dirigido a favorecer el
desarrollo de la expresión oral del idioma Inglés
en los estudiantes, que en manos de los profesores encargados de
impartir esta materia, constituirá una herramienta
indispensable para el desarrollo del proceso de enseñanza
aprendizaje del Inglés en el preuniversitario.

Los ejercicios del material docente están
elaborados a partir de los niveles del desempeño cognitivo
y de asimilación del aprendizaje por los estudiantes de
este nivel educativo; abordan temas del quehacer cubano, de la
realidad que les rodea y que al mismo tiempo, brinden
oportunidades de practicar el idioma y eliminar las barreras que
afectan la comunicación, para lograr una verdadera
competencia comunicativa.

De esta manera se enriquece el programa con ejercicios
que propician el intercambio de criterios e ideas, les sirven
para ampliar sus conocimientos culturales, consolidar los
conocimientos lingüísticos y continuar enriqueciendo
su cultura general e integral.

El material docente se desarrolla en cuatro
epígrafes, partiendo de los fundamentos teórico
metodológicos del desarrollo de la expresión oral
del Inglés en el preuniversitario, se relacionan las
características, rasgos, requisitos y estructura interna
de la expresión oral, se fundamenta el sistema de
ejercicios para favorecer el desarrollo de la expresión
oral, además de su presentación y
explicación y finaliza el trabajo con la
constatación parcial en la práctica del sistema de
ejercicios propuesto.

DESARROLLO

En este epígrafe se abordan los fundamentos
teórico- metodológicos de la expresión oral
del idioma inglés, los aspectos lingüísticos,
sociolingüísticos, psicológicos y
didácticos que influyen en la misma, y su
repercusión en el proceso de enseñanza
aprendizaje.

Presupuestos
teórico-metodológicos del desarrollo de la
comunicación oral

Filogenéticamente la actividad y la
comunicación como categorías psicológicas
constituyen formas de relación humana con la realidad
complentaria e interdependiente. En el plano ontogenético,
se ha demostrado la intervención de la actividad y la
comunicación en su unidad en la formación y
desarrollo de la personalidad.

Resulta esclarecedora la concepción
histórico-cultural desarrollada por L.S.Vigostky, que
plantea el papel de la actividad y comunicación en la
socialización del individuo desde una posición
dialéctico-materialista.

Desde el punto de vista psicológico, la
comunicación tiene un lugar especial en la
formación de la personalidad y constituye la vía
esencial de su determinación social. La
significación de la comunicación depende de los
sujetos implicados en ella; a su vez, las características
de los sujetos determinan el proceso de
comunicación.

Para definir la comunicación no existe una
acepción única y aceptada por todos en la
literatura consultada.

Comunicación, según
M.I.Álvarez,(2002), es una palabra de origen latino
(communicare), que quiere decir compartir o hacer común.
Se considera una categoría polisemántica en tanto
su utilización no es exclusiva de una ciencia social en
particular, teniendo connotaciones propias de la ciencia social
de que se trate. La comunicación es la interacción
de las personas que entran en ella como sujetos.

La comunicación en términos generales,
puede caracterizarse como el acto de transmitir
información entre un transmisor y un receptor a
través de un canal y mediante un código, citado por
M. Báez, 2006.

La actividad comunicativa esta regida por el lenguaje
oral (habla) que implica la producción y recepción
de información. La producción se realiza al hablar,
y la recepción al escuchar. El lenguaje es el medio de
comunicación esencial entre los hombres. Mediante
él podremos conocer, pensar y hablar de la realidad que
nos rodea y, además, aprender y transmitir la cultura.
Siendo tan antiguo como la sociedad humana, no es extraño
que los hombres hayan fijado su atención en ese medio sin
el cual sería impensable toda socialidad, por elemental
que fuese.

El desarrollo del lenguaje se encuentra íntima e
indisolublemente ligado al desarrollo del pensamiento mismo. Esta
doble conexión del pensamiento con el trabajo y la
sociedad, por un lado; con el pensamiento, por otro nos lo
revela, en lo esencial, como medio decisivo en el complicado e
interminable proceso de apropiación de la realidad y
valoración de la misma.

Partiendo de estas definiciones, independientemente de
las formas en que lo expresen los autores, existen elementos
comunes y esenciales al definir la comunicación,
planteados por la Dra. González Maura, V.
(1995):

Primero: La comunicación representa una forma de
interacción humana.

Segundo: La comunicación como forma de
interrelación que tiene lugar entre los hombres no puede
verse al margen de la actividad de los mismos.

Tercero: La comunicación está condicionada
por el lugar que ocupa el hombre dentro del sistema de relaciones
sociales.

Cuarto: La comunicación es elemento trascendental
en el funcionamiento y la formación de la
personalidad.

El concepto, general y abstracto cuando se refiere al
ser humano, se manifiesta en cada individuo de forma particular,
y tiene que ver con sus aptitudes y habilidades para comprender e
interpretar, así como para transmitir información.
Al desarrollar la competencia comunicativa, nos preparamos tanto
para el papel de emisor como el de receptor.

Para lograr un mayor desarrollo en la habilidad de
expresión oral, esta no debe tratarse de forma aislada,
sino en estrecha relación con el resto de las habilidades:
la comprensión lectora, auditiva y de
redacción.

Concepciones de la
expresión oral en el contexto del proceso de
enseñanza aprendizaje

Donn Byrne (1989) define la expresión oral como
un doble proceso, o proceso de dos vías entre el que habla
y el (los) que escucha (an), donde se encuentra presente la
habilidad productiva de expresión oral y la habilidad
receptiva de comprensión auditiva, produciéndose un
proceso de interpretación y negociación de
significados.

Vigotsky, L.S y Rubinstein (1982), plantean que la
expresión es un intercambio de pensamientos y emociones.
Ellos afirman que el ser humano evoluciona en un contexto
histórico – cultural donde la comunicación
juega un rol sobresalienta relacionado con la actividad diaria
desde que el hombre encara una interacción constante con
sus semejantes en la sociedad, teniendo como premisa fundamental
la comunicación.

Medina A. (2006) en su libro Didáctica de las
Lenguas Extranjeras, afirma que la expresión oral es un
proceso a través del cual el estudiante – hablante
en interacción con una o más personas y de manera
activa desempeña el doble papel de receptor del mensaje
del (los) interlocutor(es) y de codificador de su mensaje, con el
objetivo de satisfacer sus necesidades comunicativas en la lengua
extranjera. El desarrollo de esta habilidad cubre un amplio
espectro, desde el enfoque basado en el lenguaje y que enfatiza
la exactitud, hasta el basado en el mensaje y que enfatiza el
significado y la fluidez; su objetivo supremo es que el
estudiante sea capaz de desarrollar el acto comunicativo con la
efectividad requerida. Es la habilidad rectora, por excelencia,
en el aprendizaje de lenguas extranjeras y la eficiencia de su
desarrollo depende de la integración con el resto de las
habilidades verbales y de un fuerte vínculo entre
elementos cognitivos y afectivos- motivacional, con
énfasis en las últimas.

La autora asume la expresión oral como un proceso
mediador de la interacción social que tiene lugar entre
hablantes-interlocutores, con un carácter multilateral,
creativo e intencional que permite codificar y transmitir ideas
como manifestación de la relación
pensamiento-lenguaje-cultura.

Lo analizado demuestra la importancia de la
expresión oral vista desde una posición social .Es
relevante porque el aprendizaje es un proceso social y esta
investigación esta centrada en el aprendizaje de la
expresión oral en inglés. Todo profesor debe
conocer los objetivos de la expresión oral, para lograr un
uso apropiado de la misma en las clases y así lograr un
adecuado proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje, para ello
corresponde tener presente la propuesta de acciones
siguiente:

  • Practicar la pronunciación de todos los
    elementos del sistema fonológico: en contexto: los
    elementos del sistema fonéticos son adquiridos por el
    estudiante de forma oral a través de la
    audición. La atención del profesor debe estar
    concentrada en los elementos prosódicos como el ritmo,
    la entonación y el acento, que facilitan una correcta
    expresión oral.

  • Desarrollar la memoria lingüística:
    desarrollo de las habilidades para retener pequeñas
    palabras primero y palabras u oraciones más largas
    después.

  • Adquirir la forma del lenguaje: este último
    esta basado en el establecimiento de hábitos para
    emplear los patrones morfológicos y sintácticos
    del idioma.

  • Si se quiere fomentar el desarrollo de la
    expresión oral partiendo de la base de los contenidos
    que se imparten, es necesario organizar el proceso de
    enseñanza aprendizaje de manera tal que los ejercicios
    orales que se planteen requieran del uso de la lengua como
    instrumento de comunicación con procedimientos
    cooperativos.

La expresión oral lleva implícitos dos
elementos básicos y necesarios que se complementan
mutuamente: la elocución (expresión de los
pensamientos mediante la palabra, la forma o manera de exponerlos
no es igual en todas las personas: elegante, fluida, vulgar,
inexpresiva y expresivas) y la pronunciación (articular y
acentuar bien; tener una emisión agradable de cada palabra
y de todo su conjunto).

La expresión oral es la primera forma de aprender
a pensar y junto con todo el proceso de acción que
desarrolla establece una relación dialéctica. Es
decir, hay un proceso complejo de formar conexiones que hacen de
la palabra un poderoso factor de aprendizaje porque ayuda al
perfeccionamiento del léxico, a la pronunciación y,
en general a todos los recursos fónicos de la
lengua.

Proceso de
enseñanza- aprendizaje de la expresión oral en
inglés, vías para su ejecución

La enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras, como es la
del inglés en Cuba, ocurre en un contexto en el cual se
desarrollan convicciones, capacidades, conocimientos,
hábitos y habilidades, que posibilitan el uso
práctico del idioma por los alumnos que lo aprenden. Por
eso, y dada la interacción dialéctica que provoca,
esa práctica se reconoce como punto de partida del
conocimiento.

Para que se alcancen los objetivos y se logre una
adecuada formación de la expresión oral durante el
proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje, el profesor puede
emplear el trabajo en parejas de estudiantes, como una vía
para su ejecución y a su vez debe tener en cuenta los dos
tipos diferentes de parejas (fijas y flexibles). Para ello debe
tener presente algunos requerimientos, entre ellos:

  • Asegurarse que sus estudiantes conozcan con
    exactitud el objetivo del ejercicio oral a
    desarrollar.

  • Desarrollar un control selectivo de los ejercicios a
    realizar, fundamentalmente con aquellos estudiantes que
    necesiten niveles de ayuda.

  • Graduar el tiempo de la práctica
    oral.

  • Proporcionar a sus estudiantes la
    retroalimentación del contenido.

  • Atender y estimular las potencialidades en el
    desarrollo de la expresión oral

Además, para facilitar el desarrollo de la
expresión oral en el proceso de enseñanza
aprendizaje del inglés, es necesario tener en cuenta que
debe transitar por los tres niveles de desempeño cognitivo
reconocidos por Puig (2003), ellos son:

Primer nivel. Capacidad del alumno para utilizar
las operaciones de carácter instrumental básicas de
una asignatura.

Segundo nivel. Capacidad del alumno de establecer
relaciones conceptuales.

Tercer nivel. Capacidad del alumno para resolver
problemas.

Estos niveles tienen relación con los niveles de
asimilación del conocimiento.

Sistema de ejercicios para favorecer la
formación y el desarrollo de la expresión oral en
estudiantes de preuniversitario

Introducción

La autora se acoge a lo expresado por C. Álvarez
de Zayas (1995) donde el sistema de ejercicios propuestos tiene
una secuencia lógica en su estructuración con el
objetivo de dar significación y objetividad al contenido y
sirven de base para la motivación y orientación de
los alumnos. Estos ejercicios relacionados según los
niveles del desempeño cognitivo de los estudiantes y con
los niveles de asimilación, están estrechamente
interrelacionados entre si, interactúan unos con otros,
concatenados de forma tal que a la vez conlleven al cumplimiento
del objetivo de la investigación; favorecer el desarrollo
de la expresión oral en los estudiantes.

El enfoque de sistema se caracteriza por ser
interdisciplinario, cualitativo y cuantitativo, organizado,
creativo, teórico y empírico, pragmático y
dialéctico.

El sistema se caracteriza por tener una finalidad u
objetivo general que cumplir, presentar ordenamiento interno que
expresa su estructura y organización y se identifica por
elementos que determinan su complejidad.

Estas consideraciones se han elaborado en la
práctica, como resultado de la investigación
realizada.

Indicadores para
elaborar los ejercicios

Los ejercicios comunicativos se pueden realizar en la
comunicación docente del alumno a título personal
de acuerdo con la realidad objetiva. La comunicación
más efectiva es aquella que está encausada hacia
los intereses del individuo. Los estudiantes de un grupo tienen
muchos intereses comunes los cuales están dados por su
edad más o menos igual, las condiciones del trabajo
docente en la escuela y la selección de las futuras
profesiones. Estos ejercicios se pueden llevar a cabo a
través de la enseñanza frontal y en pequeños
grupos.

El mecanismo de una lengua extranjera incluye tres
grupos de hábitos, para cada uno de los cuales se deben
preparar formas distintas de ejercitación:

  • Los hábitos que ya existen en la lengua
    materna y que con muy ligeras adaptaciones pueden
    transferirse a la lengua extranjera.

  • Los hábitos que existen en la lengua materna
    y que hay que corregir y cambiar para la lengua
    extranjera.

  • Los hábitos nuevos que deben formarse para
    elementos que no existen en la lengua materna.

Estos ejercicios fueron preparados teniendo en cuenta
los siguientes indicadores:

  • Apropiados: en correspondencia con el programa,
    intereses y motivaciones.

  • Explotabilidad: deben encontrarse en diferentes
    situaciones.

  • Confiables: deben ofrecer garantía de acuerdo
    al nivel

  • Efectivos: deben ser eficaces.

Este sistema de ejercicios orales se
diseñó de acuerdo con la realidad objetiva de los
educandos para así lograr que la expresión oral sea
más efectiva y esté encaminada hacia los intereses
del colectivo, del estudiante y del profesor.

Orientaciones
metodológicas. Consideraciones generales

Estas orientaciones no tienen un carácter
obligatorio, son sugerencias o proposiciones que el profesor debe
utilizar de acuerdo con las condiciones concretas de su grupo de
estudiantes, sus intereses, motivaciones y a su vez, debe
imprimirle un estilo personal de trabajo.

Antes de orientar el trabajo con los ejercicios es
importante recomendar al docente que para lograr éxito en
el desarrollo de la comunicación oral, un aprendizaje
duradero y significativo en el estudiante se debe:

  • Favorecer un ambiente agradable.

  • Crear un clima abierto de cooperación y
    confianza.

  • Evaluar sistemáticamente los
    conocimientos.

  • Estimular el autoaprendizaje al proponer ejercicios
    para trabajar fuera del aula.

  • Concientizar al estudiante que se aprende a hablar
    hablando.

  • Enseñar a los estudiantes a detectar sus
    propios errores y utilizar métodos para la auto
    corrección.

Este sistema de ejercicios sirvió para
sistematizar los contenidos recibidos en grados anteriores y les
posibilitó a los estudiantes favorecer la formación
de su expresión oral en el idioma
Inglés.

La tipología de los ejercicios expuestos ha sido
tomada de diferentes bibliografías y adaptadas a las
características propias de los estudiantes de esta escuela
y grupo – clase.

Sistema de ejercicios orales relacionados con la
expresión oral

Para el primer nivel del desempeño
cognitivo:

1-Complete a conversation:

– Objective: Identify the correct personal pronoun
presented in the dialogue.

– Task: Underline the correct personal pronoun in the
conversation below, then act out the conversation. Take the part
of student A first and later, of student B.

– Procedure: First, the students will underline the
correct personal pronoun within parentheses in the sentences
below and then, they will practice the dialogue in pairs .The
teacher will be controlling the exercise all the time.

1- A- How old are (we -they -you)?

B- (She- He- I) am 19 years old.

2- A- Who is that girl?

B- (He- She-I) is my friend Lucy.

3- A- Where is Tom?

B- (She-He-You) is at home.

2- Complete and practice:

– Objective: Identify the appropriate communicative
function below

-Task: Select the correct communicative function from
the word list. Then practice the conversation in pairs. Be sure
to practice both parts.

– Procedure: The students will select the possible
correct answer from the list according to the model dialogue
related to their personal experience in order to complete the
blank spaces. Then, they will practice the dialogue in pairs and
afterwards, they will interchange their roles. The teacher will
copy the dialogue on the board and will bring cards with the word
list included.

Student A: Good morning.

Student B: ____________________________.

Student A: What"s your name?

Student B: _____________________________.

Student A: How are you today?

Student B: ___________________________, thank you. And
what about you?

-Task: Match the questions in column A with the correct
responses in column B so as to make a conversation.

– Procedure: The students will match column A with its
correct answer in column B taking into account their likes and
dislikes. Finally, they will practice the conversation in pairs
and they will change their roles.

practice the dialogue in pairs and finally, they will change

– Procedure: The students will fill in the blanks with
the words from the list according to the situations presented on
the blackboard .Then, they will practice the dialogue with
her/his partner and finally, they will change their
roles.

Student 1- Hello! How _____ you?

Student 2- Hi! I _______ fine. What about
you?

Student 1- I ______ fine too. How _____ your mother
today?

Student 2- She _____upset now.

into account the question presented. Act out the conversation
with another student.

– Procedure: The students will choose a or b according
to the situation given so as to form a conversation. Afterwards,
they will practice it in pairs and change their roles.

1- A Excuse me, are you Alfred Lewis?

B- a- No, I"m not. I"m John Smith.

b-I am at school.

2- A- How do you do Mr. Smith?

B- a- Yes, I am.

b- I am very well, thanks.

3- A- Are you a mechanic?

7- Key words:

– Objective: Identify the appropriate communicative
function "occupations and professions" according to the
situation.

-Task: Complete the dialogue with the proper key word.
Play the role of student 1 and then, student 2.

– Procedure: A student will ask a question and the other
will answer it by using a correct key word related to occupations
and professions. Then the students will practice the conversation
in couples. Finally, they will change roles.

Student 1-Where does your father work?

Student 2- He works in a _____________

Student 1- He is a _________________.Isn"t
he?

Student 2- Not any more.

Student 1- What does he do at present?

Student 2- He is a _____________.

Key words: Work places: Office, hospital, bank, school,
agriculture, and industry.

Professions: bank teller, typist, secretary, teacher,
doctor, nurse, computing programmer, student,
mechanic.

8- What are they like?

– Objective: Use the communicative function "what people
are like" according to the picture shown by the
teacher.

-Task: Look at the picture. Then answer this question:
What are they like? Discuss with your partner the people"s
personalities.

– Procedure: The teacher will show a picture of a famous
Cuban personality and the students will answer to the question by
using the selected adjective from the list written on cards in
affirmative or negative forms. She will check the students
answers and their right intonation, pronunciation and rhythm of
words; the same as the proper grammar structure used in each
sentence.

Useful Words: Card 1: nervy/ kind/ shy/ talkative/
sensitive/ self-confident.

Card 2: adjectives: hardworking/ lazy/ bad- tempered/
calm/ friendly/ intelligent.

9– Fill in the blanks:

– Objective: Express actions that take place habitually
or at the moment of speaking by using the verbs given.

-Task: Give the verb the correct form. Use either simple
present or present continuous. Compare your answer with your
partner"s. Practice the conversation with a friend and change
roles.

– Procedure: The students will fill the blank spaces by
using the correct form of the verb in parenthesis in simple
present tense or in present continuous according to each sentence
given. Then the students will practice the dialogue in pairs and
finally, they will change their roles. The teacher will be
checking the student answers and will correct the mistakes taking
into account a good pronunciation of each sentence.

E.g.: Student A: Are you__________ (study)
now?

Student B: Sure. I _____ (be).

1-Student A: How do you________ (go) to
school?

Student B: I ______ (take) the bus because I don"t
______ (have) a car. (Negative)

2-Student A: Do you _______ (live) in the
city?

Student B: No, I don"t. I _____ (live) in the suburbs
but my sister ______ (live) in the city.

3-Student A: Look, the bus is _________ (come). See you
later.

Student B: Good bye.

10- Who I am?

– Objective: Use Yes/ No questions to find out who the
person is.

-Task: Discover who the person is by asking Yes/ No
questions to your partner. Afterwards, exchange roles.

– Procedure: The teacher gives a student the name of a
well-known person. The whole class, by means of Yes/ No
questions, should find out who the person is. The teacher will be
guiding the activity and correcting the student"s mistakes
regarding pronunciation and fluency.

E.g.: The teacher gives a student the name of an
important personality like Isabel Santos, Rogelio Blaín,
Alain Delón, Penélope Cruz, Camilo Cienfuegos, and
Ernesto Guevara. The students will work in pairs by asking and
answering questions beginning with Yes/No. For instance: Is
he/she alive? Does he/she live in Europe? Is he/she a dramatic
actor or actress? Was he a hero? Was he a revolutionary
man?

Para el segundo nivel del desempeño
cognitivo

1-Complete a conversation:

– Objective: Express orally information from the
dialogue using the personal pronouns and possessive adjectives
appropriately.

-Task: Complete the dialogue with the proper personal
pronouns and possessive adjective. Practice the conversation with
your friend. Afterwards, exchange roles.

– Procedure: The students will fill in the blank spaces
using the proper personal pronouns or possessive adjectives.
Then, they will practice each conversation with her/his friend
and afterwards, they will change their roles. The teacher will
control the answers and at the same time she will check their
dialogue practice.

E.g. Student A: Hi! Are ____Nikos?

Student B: No, ___am not. ___am Pierre.

A-Student A: What"s ______ sister"s name?

Student B: ____is Janice.

B-Student A: And what about _____ father"s
name?

Student B: ____is Arnold.

c-Student A: Do you live together?

Student B: Sure, ____ live in the same house.______ are
very happy.

2- Model dialogue

-Objective: Express orally the required communicative
function "asking personal information" according to the situation
given.

-Task: Fill in the conversation with the appropriate
communicative function. Next, act out the conversation with a
friend. Play the role of student A first. Then, play the role of
student B.

-Procedure: The students will complete the conversation
individually. Next, they will compare the answers with a
friend"s. After that, they will practice the dialogue and
finally, they will change the roles. The teacher will be helping
the less advanced student of the group or the student that needs
more it in order to practice several communicative
functions.

3- Find the card:

– Objective: Express orally the communicative functions
"saying likes and dislikes".

-Task: One student will ask her/his partner what kind of
music he/she likes the most and why. The other student will
select a card to answer the question and will explain the
reasons. Change roles.

– Procedure: One student will ask the question to
his/her partner. His/her partner will answer taking into account
the card selected. Then, she/he will explain the reasons
according to his/her own likes and dislikes. Afterwards, they
will change their roles. The teacher will write on cards
different types of music. She will have the students express
orally themselves appropriately and also will be controlling the
students answers according to the communicative function
used.

E.g. Student 1: What kinds of music do you like the
most?

Student 2: I like Pop music because it is on fashion. Or
I do not like it because it is too boring.

4-Meeting someone:

  • Objective: Express personal information based on the
    dialogue 4 of the first level.

  • Task: Organize the questions and answers in a proper
    way. Then, practice with your partner. Next, make a
    conversation with your friend"s help by changing the
    underlined words. After that, practice it again with her/him.
    Be sure to practice both parts.

  • Procedure: The students will organize the questions
    and answers first so as to form a dialogue. Then, they will
    practice it with her/his friend. Next, they will change the
    underlined information according to their own experiences.
    Later, they will practice the dialogue again in pairs. The
    teacher will be helping the students to create their own
    conversation by using the communicative functions already
    learnt by them during the unit.

  • Student 1: – good morning

  • How are you?

  • What is your name?

  • Do you work every day?

  • What´s your occupation?

  • Where are you from?

5- Adapted dialogue:

– Objective: Use the appropriate communicative functions
"asking personal information" based on a dialogue.

– Task: Ask your couple the questions written in the
card selected. Next, practice it in pairs. Then, change the
underlined information according to your experiences. Practice it
again. Finally, change roles.

– Procedure: A student of the couple will ask the
questions of the dialogue presented in the card and his/her
partner will answer them according to his/her needs. Next, they
will practice it. After, they change the underlined information
taking into account their experiences. After that, they will
practice the dialogue again and finally, they will change their
characters. The teacher will control their answers and their
performance during the exercise.

Card:

Student A: Good morning, Helen.

Student B: Good morning, Rick.

Student A: What"s your father"s name?

6- Describing:

– Objective: Compare pictures using the proper
adjectives to express magnitudes, state of being, moods, personal
and objects characteristics, weather conditions and the
like.

-Task: Show two pictures to your friend. Ask him/her to
compare them using the appropriate adjectives. After, change
roles.

– Procedure: One student shows two related pictures to
his/her partner or to the students of the group. The other
(others) compares orally the pictures by using the adjectives,
synonyms, and antonyms from the clues given by the teacher and
they will follow the teacher"s model. The teacher will be
encouraged to motivate her/his students by selecting a relevant
picture taking into account the students" interest and
characteristics. The pictures are related to personalities,
schools, houses, hospitals, cars, and so on.

7-Role play:

  • Procedure: Student A will ask questions to his/her

  • Objective: Express opinions about life style
    habits.

  • Task: Analyze the following information first. Then,
    select one of them to discuss in groups about what it means.
    Use the clues below. Support your answer by giving examples
    and convincing reasons.

  • Procedure: The teacher will write on the board these
    issues. One student of each team will express orally his/her
    opinion about the issue selected. The teacher will promote a
    discussion in the whole group about them. She/he will be also
    paying attention to grammar structures and to pronunciation,
    fluency and accuracy.

-Card 1: Life style is a determining factor for
health.

-Card 2: Bad manners at the table.

Clues for card 1: Lack of physical exercises/ stress/
the use of too many pharmaceutical products/ an unsensible life
routine.

Clues for card 2: To come to the table with dirty hands/
to blow on one"s food to cool it/ to have soup making noise/ to
talk having a mouth full.

9- Irish stew:

– Objective: Express the communicative functions
"describing persons" and "what someone does".

-Task: Select a picture from the ones shown by the
teacher. Work with your partner to discuss about the activity the
person does and describe it.

– Procedure: The teacher shows a wide variety of
pictures of important personalities (such as Alicia Alonso, Fidel
Castro, Hugo R. Chavez, Miguel Barnet, Frank Fernandez, Juan
Formell, Leinier Dominguez, Yuliesky Gourriel etc) and a number
bellow each one of it. One student of the couple asks his/her
partner about the activity each person of the selected picture
does usually and also will describe her/him. Then, the other
student answers the question. Here the students use the simple
present tense in affirmative and negative sentences together with
the vocabulary they have learned during unit 1 and the adjectives
given by the professor. Afterwards, the couple changes their
roles.

-Adjectives: honest/smart/ polite/ sincere/ happy/ lazy/
thin/ tall/ hardworking/ weak/ good dancer/ good-looking/ sport
man.

10- Describe a person:

– Objective: Describe orally people"s character and
physically.

-Task: Describe your friend personality and physically
according to the card selected.

– Procedure: One student of the group or of the couple
will describe the other (others) student physically and his/her
personality by means of using a wide variety of adjective of each
selected card. One student will select a card from the teacher"s
table and then he/she will describe his/her partner"s character
and physically by using the adjective written on it and
viceversa. The teacher will help the students and will be
checking their answers by correcting the student"s grammar and
their correct spelling mistakes.

Card 1: thin, slim, tall, short, attractive,
handsome, young, blond, white, strong, white, honest, punctual,
hardworking, kind, and optimistic.

Card 2: reliable, sensitive, generous, nice,
pleasant, friendly, relaxed, brunette, fair skin, black eyes,
curly hair, good-looking, beautiful, ugly, skinny, and
obese.

Para el tercer nivel del desempeño
cognitivo

1– My opinion:

– Objective: Express personal information using the
vocabulary already learnt in the unit.

-Task: Write sentences with one of the words given. Tell
your partner your idea and listen to your partner"s
one.

– Procedure: Write sentences with one of the words
selected. Next, tell your partner your idea related to it. After
that, listen to your friend"s one.

2- Dialogue:

– Objective: Dramatize a dialogue based on the
communicative functions "giving personal opinions, ask and answer
about likes and dislikes, about professions, daily activities and
routines".

-Task: Create a dialogue first and then, dramatize it
with your partner using the communicative functions related to
personal opinions such as: name, age, marital status,
professions, and telephone number, ask and answer about likes and
dislikes, daily activities and routines. Act out the
conversation.

– Procedure: One student of the couple will ask
questions taking into account the communicative functions of the
exercise 2 of the previous level and his/her partner will answer
them according to his/her needs and experiences.

3-Likes and dislikes:

– Objective: Express orally the communicative function
related to "Likes and Dislikes".

-Task: Play role A first and B later.

– Procedure: One student (A) wants to buy a gift for a
friend of the group and will describe that person to a partner
taking into account his/her likes and dislikes. The other student
(B) will guess who the person is for making suggestions about
his/her interests. The teacher will control the development of
the exercise

4- Creative dialogue:

– Objective: Use the communicative functions "giving
personal opinions, ask and answer about likes and dislikes, about
professions, daily activities and routines".

-Task: Ask to your partner different questions related
to the following communicative functions: giving personal
opinions such as greetings, saying names, professions,
nationality, age, marital status, and telephone number, number of
family members and likes and dislikes. Next, make a dialogue with
him/her using them in a real life situation.

– Procedure: A student of the couple will ask the
questions related to the communicative functions contained in
cards such as greets, names, professions, nationality, age,
marital status, telephone number, number of family members and
likes and dislikes and another student of each couple will answer
them. Finally, they will make a conversation related to the
questions asked before. The teacher will correct the student"s
mistakes in pronunciation.

5- Narration:

– Objective: Narrate the activities that someone
does.

-Task: Tell your partner what activities you do at home,
at school, at night, in the mornings, and on weekends. Then, ask
what she/he does and narrate it.

– Procedure: The students will narrate what his/her
partner does daily but first a student of the couple will explain
what he or she does every day, at home, at school, at night, in
the mornings, and on weekends. Afterwards, they will change the
roles.

6- Opposites:

– Objective: Describe pictures by using the adjectives,
synonyms, and antonyms studied.

-Task: Look at the picture. Describe it. Work in
couple.

– Procedure: One student of the couple will describe
pictures related to a famous Cuban actor showed by the teacher
and will use the adjectives, synonyms, and antonyms studied
during the unit. The professor will control the students to
converse creatively.

7- Radio report:

– Objective: Use the communicative functions related to
likes and dislikes, occupations, daily activities, routines,
countries and nationalities, giving personal information and
possessions studied during the unit.

-Task: Create a conversation together with a friend
related to a given picture using the verbs and the lexicon of the
unit.

– Procedure: The teacher will divide the group into two
teams of about six students. Then each team is given three or
four pictures containing the verbs and the lexicon of unit one.
In five minutes, they must create a story by means of the
description of the picture shown by linking the verbs and lexicon
in relation to his/her own experiences and imagination. They
should use the verbs, adjectives, and the lexicon
appropriately.

E.g.: the students are given pictures related to a girl
and her boyfriend, a marriage couple, a single boy.

8-Plannig an activity:

– Objective: Discuss on personal belongings and decision
making.

-Task: You are going to "the school in the country".
Decide with your team the 10 things you will need the
most.

– Procedure: One student will report to the classmates
the 10 things she/he needs to go to the school in the country
taking into account the simple present tense, the present
continuous tense, the communicative functions of the unit and the
lexicon related to the unit too. The teacher will motivate them
to meet the challenges of learning.

9- Debate:

– Objective: Use communicative functions to express
personal opinions on matters such as smoking, pregnancy and good
manners.

-Task: Discuss with your couple about a situation your
teacher will write on the board.

– Procedure: The teacher will write a problematic
situation on the board for the students" discussion. They gather
in teams to discuss the situations and one of them voice the
team"s opinions on the issue.

E.g.: Smoking is dangerous for health.

Independence is the cause of teenage
pregnancy.

Good manners in public places.

10- Describe a person:

– Objective: Use the communicative function related to
"describing people"s physically and personality".

-Task: Describe your partner"s personality and physical
height and build. Change roles.

– Procedure: One student of the couple will describe
her/his partner"s character and physical height and build without
the teacher"s help.

Conclusiones del
sistema de ejercicios propuesto

Para que la enseñanza de la expresión oral
sea efectiva en nuestros educandos debe ser graduada y
sistemática. Debe ser graduada porque los ejercicios
orales deben ser accesibles, es decir, deben estar dentro de las
posibilidades lingüísticas, psicológicas y
culturales de los estudiantes del nivel en cada etapa de su
aprendizaje. Se deben distribuir los mismos adecuadamente durante
la clase. Es recomendable que se efectúen de modo
frecuente, en períodos cortos y variados.

Valoración de
los resultados en la intervención parcial en la
práctica

Al realizar la exploración de la situación
problémica de la investigación y caracterizada la
muestra a partir de los resultados del diagnóstico desde
perspectivas sociopedagógicas, se hizo necesario analizar
y proyectar los ejercicios encaminados a la búsqueda de
una posible solución al problema.

Se comprobó que los profesores confrontaban
dificultad al trabajar la expresión oral, por tanto no
lograron en los estudiantes el desarrollo de la misma al poco
dominio que presentaron de los contenidos recibidos en grados
anteriores, a la insuficiencia de ejercicios en los textos que se
relacionaran con los niveles del desempeño cognitivo y los
niveles de asimilación del aprendizaje, a su vez, con la
escasez de ejercicios en el programa de la asignatura para
trabajar la expresión oral, estos no se
correspondían con las particularidades de los estudiantes,
sus intereses y sus motivaciones por lo que no contribuían
al desarrollo de la habilidad oral.

La aplicación de una prueba de salida
permitió determinar la influencia ejercida por la
propuesta de ejercicios relacionados con la expresión oral
y los niveles del desempeño cognitivo. La
instrumentación de estos ejercicios logró favorecer
el desarrollo de la expresión oral y con ello el proceso
de enseñanza aprendizaje de la asignatura de Inglés
y a su vez, se logró el protagonismo en las clases. Las
mismas fueron más amenas, motivadoras, respondieron a sus
intereses y particularidades propiciando una mayor
autopreparación de los profesores de la asignatura al
implementar el sistema de ejercicios relacionados con la
habilidad oral aspecto que se corrobora durante el proceso
investigativo.

CONCLUSIONES

Del análisis realizado se evidencian las
inconsistencias epistemológicas que existen en el proceso
de enseñanza aprendizaje de la expresión oral al
ser insuficientes las orientaciones metodológicas y los
ejercicios relacionados con los niveles del desempeño
cognitivo que se ofrecen para solucionar la problemática
existente.

El sistema de ejercicios propuesto, aplicado de forma
creadora, sistémica, profesional y flexible, favorecieron
el desarrollo oral en la asignatura de Inglés y
optimizaron el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje de esta
habilidad al exigir que los estudiantes transiten por los
diferentes niveles del conocimiento.

La aplicación del sistema de ejercicios para
favorecer el desarrollo de la expresión oral
alcanzó elevados índices de
aceptación.
