Introducción
La infección
urinaria es una complicación frecuente durante el
embarazo.
Aproximadamente su incidencia es de un 10 – 15% de las gestantes.
Los factores hormonales, el éxtasis urinario, la
glucosuria y el incremento del reflejo vesical, son factores
predisponentes durante el embarazo. Los organismos más
frecuentes encontrados incluyen a la Echerichia Coli (75 – 90%),
Klebsiella (10 – 15%) y Proteus (5%); Pseudomonas, Streptococus y
Estafilococos son menos frecuentes encontrados en los estudios
bacteriológicos de la orina.

Dentro de estas afecciones urinarias están
comprendidas:
- La Bacteriuria asintomática (BAS) y
- La Pielonefritis gravídica (P.G.)
En la BAS, la incidencia es de un 6% durante la
gestación, de la misma forma que en la no gestante, pero
con vida sexual activa. De un 25 – 40% de las gestantes con BAS
que no recibieron tratamiento, evolucionaron a un cuadro de PG,
sin embargo, con tratamiento esta complicación disminuye
hasta 10 veces menos. Debemos tener presente que el 30% de los
casos, pueden sufrir recidivas, por lo cual, el tratamiento y la
vigilancia de los cultivos de la orina se mantendrán,
hasta 6 semanas después del parto.
